With the launch of the 2025 Arena Event, Evony introduces a new infantry general – Gao Changgong, also known as the ‘Prince of Lanling’ from China. In this guide, we’ll break down his buffs, how to unlock him, his strengths, uses, and share some tips on synergies.

The General Story

Gao Changgong, also known as the Prince of Lanling, was one of Northern Qi’s greatest generals, renowned for his striking looks, fearless valor, and deep loyalty to his troops.

During the Battle of Mount Mang, 200,000 soldiers from Northern Zhou besieged Luoyang, and with the city on the brink of collapse, Gao charged in with only 500 cavalry, donning a demon mask to conceal his beauty. He broke through enemy lines and reached the gates but was soon surrounded.

In a bold move, he removed the mask, revealing his identity. This sparked a surge in morale among the defenders, who rushed to join him, ultimately forcing the Zhou army to retreat. To honor his heroism, soldiers composed the iconic anthem “The Song of the Prince of Lanling entering the battle camp“, solidifying his place in legend.

Despite winning countless victories and gaining the love of the people, imperial jealousy cut his life short. Still, his heroic tale endures, inspiring the spirit of Northern Qi to rise against every enemy.

Special Skill and Ascension Effect

Prince of Lanling: increases ground troops’ attack and defense by 55% and ground troops’ HP by 40% when Gao Changgong is leading the army.
Ascend the general to unlock the following buffs.
  1. 1st red star: ground troop attack and HP +10%
  2. 2nd red star: attacking troop death into wounded rate +8%
  3. 3rd red star: ground troop attack +20%; ground and mounted troop defense +10%
  4. 4th red star: ground and mounted troop attack and HP +15%
  5. 5th red star: ground troop attack and defense +25%; march size capacity +8%

Max-level Specialties

  1. Ground Troop Assault: ground troop attack and HP +10%
  2. Formation: ground and mounted troop attack +10%
  3. Ground Troop Ares: ground troop attack, HP, and defense +10%
  4. Song of the Prince of Lanling: ground and mounted troop attack +45%; ground troop defense +45%; march size capacity +8%

General Covenant Information

Covenanted generals:

Wei Qing, Yue Fei, and Cheng Yaojin
You can recruit General Wei Qing and Yue Fei in the Tavern. Specifically, recruiting Wei Qing requires 50,000,000 Gold, while Yue Fei needs 60,000,000 Gold. On the other hand, Cheng Yaojin can be obtained through a chance from Epic General, Epic Historic General, and Epic Historic General (Premium).

Covenant attributes:

  1. War Covenant: ground troop attack +5%
  2. Cooperation Covenant: ground troop training speed +5% (take effect unconditionally)
  3. Peace Covenant: ground troop defense +10%
  4. Faith Covenant: reinforcing ground troop HP +10%; ground troop HP +5% (take effect unconditionally)
  5. Honor Covenant: attacking ground troop attack +10%
  6. Civilization Covenant: march size capacity +6%; in-rally ground troop attack +10%
Except for the two in bold, the other buffs are only effective for this general purpose.

How to Earn General Gao Changgong?

  1. Limited-time Event (Obtaining probability: 100%)

You can receive this general at the Historic General Summoning event.
During Evony’s 2025 Arena Event, if you summon generals within 6 times, you will definitely get this general.
Summoning generals need to consume the “Epic Historic General (Glory)”.
Purchase the 5th tier of the Arena Event deal package to get the “Epic Historic General (Glory)”.

According to the table above, Gao Changgong and Carolina are mainly buffs that are effective when leading the army. They have a wider range of effectiveness. However, Hamilton’s buffs mainly work in the offensive state.
Therefore, Gao Changgong and Carolina have similar scopes of application, that is, they can be used as the main general of the offensive force, as the assistant general, and for other purposes such as reinforcement.
  • Focus on ground troop attack: If Gao Changgong is a main general, he is not as good as the other two in this aspect, but as an assistant general, he is the same as Hamilton and better than Carolina.
  • As for defense, Gao Changgong’s buff in this aspect is better than the other two when the three generals are all assistants, and slightly lower than Hamilton when they are main generals.
  • Next, ground HP, Gao Changgong’s buff in this area is weaker than the other two.
  • From the perspective of increasing march size, Gao Changgong is better than the other two.
If we compare Gao Changgong and Carolina separately, their overall strength is comparable. Gao Changgong’s weakness is ground HP, while Carolina’s weakness is ground defense. Their other buffs are similar.
